Is it just a case of getting a longer cable - putting the 180deg bend futher away and thereby allowing straighter runs into the pedal box and at the clutch arm end?
Having seen it mentioned in several places I bought a 1.3 Capri clutch cable and - although this is a picture taken from the Haynes forum - I am
effectively having the same sort of problem as shown below with the routing(sorry about the photo size).

My clutch cable is much longer - maybe 2x that one. Pretty sure it was bought as a Capri cable. Can remember which model though.
On mine I used a million 2 Escort cable but where it goes through the bulkhead I made an angled cable stop rather than the straight one shown there, the cable is routed around the metal part of the engine mount secured with a rubber lined “P” clip . It has a smooth curve and the pedal action is smooth.

On my Pinto + type 9 MK Indy (Sierra donor) I used a new Sierra clutch cable. From memory the cable was 2-3 timeslonger than the one shown in the picture. With a longer cable it allowed straighter ends and not such a tight bend. Car drove fine.
Looks the same kind of length as mine. I made a couple of small brackets to make sure it ran properly
One off the bell housing downwards and one to secure it nice and straight on the chassis rail for the part into the pedal housing
Looks same as mine too. I got a big wide tie wrap and put it across the widest points of the cable. got someone to pull it tighter and bring the two
bulging side closer together slowly whilst I was operating the clutch, the cable now runs in a U shape with parallel sides. This improved the angle
where the cable comes out the bulkhead. been on there 10yrs and works fine.

i had the close-to-exhaust problem causing clutch cable failures. Fitted the above which solved the issue.

IIRC the Escort Cosworth was based on a Sierra and not an Escort so the clutch cables are probably more Sierra like.

My clutch cable is exactly the same as in the first pic, a Ford Capri MK1 68-72 and is a Moprod mcc 1005
Its been on my car since 1998 and has never caused any problems, so cant see any problems why you don't think it will work

If your cable sits at a similar angle at the bulkhead as the photo then it will feel strange , the first thing that will happen is the cable will try to straighten as the pedal is pressed before actually operating the clutch . Get someone to operate the clutch pedal while you watch what happens to the cable to see what I mean .
