How to (nearly) write-off a Ferrari 360
David Jenkins - 5/10/12 at 02:13 PM

But a decent recovery effort saves the day!

Steve Hignett - 5/10/12 at 02:25 PM

I'll bet you a shiny new Five pence piece that I know the exact words that were said at 23/24 seconds

David Jenkins - 5/10/12 at 03:18 PM

I wouldn't want his upholstery cleaning bill either!

BobM - 5/10/12 at 05:25 PM

That was close to being very expensive. Difficult working out how he got so badly out of shape!

jossey - 5/10/12 at 06:41 PM

Omg....
My bum clenched I do wonder what his did lol.

gavin174 - 5/10/12 at 07:47 PM

looks like he tried to weave to warm the tyres...
or misjudged the turn...

and put the two near side tyres on the grass.

I think it was more luck than good driving, that saved the car!!

woodster - 5/10/12 at 07:59 PM

Sadly it could be a case of loads of money and no brains ... My guess is one day he won't be so lucky , I just hope he has the camera with him

Where could I go with this one?

Were you sat next to him?
I bet he didn't say "Oh dear me I appear to have misjudged my approach to that corner"
Was it words? Times like that all I can do is exhale!

Dangle_kt - 5/10/12 at 08:44 PM

i think it was pretty good idea to turn the wheel the other way when he did to pull it away from the barriers. Maybe it wasn't thought through, but if it was - top marks!

Nearly makes up for the mess up he made ending up like that - nearly.

perksy - 5/10/12 at 08:52 PM

Once saw a chap put a Ferrari 355 into the pit wall at Donnington park

He just got out and shrugged his shoulders, but i don't think he was short of a few quid

Looks like it got a bit squirrelly under braking going on to possibly wet grass with rear engined car. Lucky bugger to miss the barrier.

I've looked at it a few times and it looks like the car starts losing it before he hits the grass. It doesn't tie in with his steering movements either.

I wonder whether there is a rear tyre issue or suspension failure. It looks very similar to what happens when a rear toe link fails on a lotus elise. Which is quite common on track - just look on youtube for it.

emwmarine - 6/10/12 at 08:32 AM

p.s. rear toe link failure happened to me on track in an elise and the outcome was very similar to this guy.

adithorp - 6/10/12 at 08:45 AM

I've looked a few times and I think it gets a bit out of shape over the crest, he panicks and lifts of the throttle. Snap oversteer and he's going backwards.

Possibly, the nose seemed to dip hence me suggesting braking but that would have the same effect.

Close call. Reminded me of my near miss.

From the engine noise id say he wasnt going fast anyway, short shifting, plus he didnt break for a small kink like that. Id say he was weaving to get a feel for grip and put two tyres on the grass.

Did the same at Oulton Park in a Mk1 MX5 in the same place. Ended up clipping the barrier though as the back came around. Damp and Druids are always interesting.

Had a close shave racing at Combe this year

If you CBA watching the whole race, I pulled the manouver off first time at 5:16, lost the place later on and tried the same move on the same person at 8:10 and wasn't as successful
Got a round of applause from the marshall post on the cool down lap
