I've got my engine out of the car at the moment. I'm using a tigger wheel on the crank pulley at the moment for EDIS but can I use the
original flywheel & sensor? (volvo)
It's got 58-2 timing marks. The missing teeth are about 90 degrees before the sensor (at TDC for cylinder 1) and MS wants, for a 6 cylinder:
EDIS-6: missing tooth is exactly six teeth (60°) ahead of the VR sensor.
I can't do this with the flywheel as there is a dowel meaning there is only one position to put the flywheel on. Can I use it as it is and then
adjust settings in MS to suit? Would be neater/more reliable than a trigger wheel/sensor on the crank pulley (although I do have that as a backup if
the flywheel sensor isn't an option)

Not if you're using EDIS - it only works with 36-1. If you ditch the EDIS you can do what you like and set up the megasquirt accordingly.
As an aside, it'll almost certainly be 60-2 on the flywheel, not 58.

Yep, you count how it's written (60 minus 2, 36 minus 1) so you include the missing teeth in the main number (i.e. a 36-1 wheel has 35 teeth and
one gap).
You can't use those settings unless you're doing the trigger decoding within MS and using VB921 coil drivers or similar (i.e. not using
EDIS). EDIS has internal programming to decode a 36-1 wheel with a specific trigger angle (60 deg for EDIS6) only.
