MSI uses a 8bit Microcontroller (MC68HC908GP32)
MSII has a 16,bit Microcontroller (MC9S12 ).

See Linky

The main thing I'm guessing is. If you have to ask the question, then MSI will be more than enough to start with.
When you sussed that out, then a (free) fimrware upgrade to MSextra will be a more to learn.
See the MSI.LINKY for extraefi.
There is a huge list of options for the MSI.
Plus there is 2 main version for the MSI
Ver. 2.2 and 3.
I used the 2.2 version (fuel only). for My RF900 BEC until a ZX12 engine came.
Best bit I bought mine direct from the USA when it was $1.80 to th £. and got my money back when I sold my system.

Then you can always get a MSII pluging module for your MSI
