Hi,
I have my eyes on a Triumph Spitfire tank. It is to be used in combination with a Zetec engine. Will they match?
I heard that an injection engine needs baffles/ swirlpot?
Do I need to make more penetrations, say for a fuel return pipe?
For an FI car your tank just needs
1) a fuel supply outlet
2) a fuel return inlet
3) a breather pipe
baffles arent needed, but can help fuel starvation from hard cornering depending on your tank shape. (mine just has a small sump that the fuel is
taken from)
Swirl pot is not needed
Forgot to ask, what about a fuel pump? Does the Ford Mondeo tank have an electric fuel pump mounted onto the tank?
Edit to ask: Does the Spitfire tank have baffles??

Yes the Ford Mondeo tank has an electric fuel pump mounted onto the tank along with the fuel gauge unit.

The picture I have of a Spitfire Mk1,2,3 fuel tank shows a ridge along the centre of the tank. The diamenter of the Mondeo unit is 110mm, if you
removed the sender unit this could be reduced and use the original sender unit for the fuel gauge. The Mondeo pump has feed and return connections on
top, and has a total height of 200mm. Fuel pick up pipe can be changed for a longer one if tank is deeper than ford tank.
Be lucky, Mike
Thanks guys. I will get the tank and make the necessary modifications. This will save me the time of fabricating a new one!
Spitfire tank is deeper than modern tin top tank --- and I think you will find the fitting for the tank unit is different from that used by ford
Just use Sierra or Montego/Maestro fuel injection external pump --- new pumps very very cheap on ebay
