What about this???????
RMarine - 29/6/09 at 06:26 PM

Hi, I have been trying to decide what type of fuel system I should us on my locost (tread - http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=116370). I started thinking about a 2.0L zetec with bike carbs but I was told today by two different companies but they may be changing the IVA emissions rules so you won’t be able to use this option and as money is tight I can’t afford to make a mistake. So after a long conversion with Cheshire sport cars they came up with using a 1992 1.8L Zetec with bike carb and all the rest you have to do to a 1.8 Zetec to make it work for £1600.00. a lot of money but I can upgrade to engine after the IVA.
When I started my journey down this rollercoaster of a ride they call “build your own car” I had an old rs turbo sitting in my back garden, this car has now be removed but I was thinking, I could buy a tuned 1988 RS turbo for £500-£700 and use all the bits off that to make my car work.
Or could I ?

Stick a pinto in for IVA (1980's emissions test) and then change to a duratec afterwards

Pintotastic:- On Ebay

Just don't tell them that Sally is going to get chopped up!

Why not. A nice 1.6 CVH Turbo will be great. People on here have already fitted them. The only shame about kitcars, is everyone gets a bit shouty about what engines to use. I could also go off on a rant but that doesn't help you out much.

£1600 for a 1.8 zetec is crazy. You could drop a 2.0 Redtop, with bespoke bellhousing and fitting kit, in there for less than a grand. Hell you could ebay a V8 and Rover SD1 gearbox for less than that. You know.... incase you want an engine to tear the skin of pedestrians as you rocket past.... at a sensible speed.... obviously.

If you want to spend £1600 on an engine stick a duratec in from the start....and you'll still have a bit left over....

RMarine - 29/6/09 at 07:56 PM

that £1600 is for the engine, bike carbs, ecu, sump, fly wheel, clutch, inlet manifold and fuel pump.

That price is madness

For reference, my donor car (diff, driveshafts, steering column, uprights, wheels, type 9 gearbox), a MK5 RS2000 engine, loom, clutch, aluminium bellhousing, manifolds (I admit they are homemade), bike carbs, pump, flywheel etc etc comes in at a reasonable £650. So around a grand cheaper.

For £1600 you should really set your sights higher than an old Zetec.

I assume the ecu is a megajolt if running carbs. You just need an early 1800 zetec from an escort 1993 or earlier and get the sump cut and shut, standard flywheel and clutch cover an early mondeo clutch plate an edis from an escort a megajolt, some bike carbs from a 600 cc bike and a home made inlet manifold or buy one from GBS.
Paul.
You should be able to do it allfor less than £500

Put a 'wanted' ad up on here.

Someone here's bound to have one kicking about!

Cheers,

Hi

How soon do you want the zetec? I have two.

1. 1.8 black top with 2.0l cams, was a runner when it came out of a kit for a BEC conversion. This sits in my garage keeping everything else company

2. 1.8 silver top presently in my Luego, and runs well. It will be removed 09-12/09 for a tuned 2.0l Zetec.

The swap is to get that skin peeling effect we all seem to desire with power

i now have a 1.8 zetec from a 1993 xr3i. now i need some carbs.... What about these?
