whats a EDIS-module?

Fords Electronic Distributorless Ignition System.

The edis module is the bit which takes a signal from a trigger, usually a series of teeth or holes on a wheel, with one missing, a sensor detects the missing tooth or hole, and depending on type fires the appropriate coil at the required interval, then using two signals PIP & SAW, the timing can be varied by the ecu, megajolt or similar depending on engine requirements.

It replaces the dizzy.

it needs an ecu such as megajolt to control it.

it tells the colipacks when to spark.

Thanks all.

The whole EDIS system handles the complete task of crank/ignition synchronization as well as current sourcing for the wasted-spark coils. The task of generating the desired ignition advance is performed by the ECU.

sorry to hijack thread

so would i be right in thinking if you were using a weber alpha and carbs you would not need the edis as the crank sensor plugs straight into the alpha
