Calling all Zetec experts
Numb nuts - 13/7/09 at 07:56 PM

Hi all.

I have a 1.8 silver top zetec in my luego, its running with what I believe is the aluminium (130 bhp)1.8 inlet manifold/sandwitch plate that has the ali injector rail.
This is linked up to 4x R6 throttle bodies (about 38mm).

The manifold fuel rail has the following numbers on it:
938F-9D280, CA59, 9H487.
Stamped on it: HE, K20

1. Can anyone tell me what this manifold originates from?
2. What sort of BHP would this set up manage?
3. I am putting a 2.0 black top in, tuned to about 190-200bhp...can I use it?

All advise greatfully recieved Steve

The mid plate was only fitted to the 1.6/ 1.8 escort / fiesta ect.

The rail and injectors would be the same as the 2.0 mondeo. I would guess good for 150bhp.

What have you done to the motor for it to be 200bhp ?

must be in a good state of tune, brother inlaw runs a 2litre silver top with Kent cams vernier pulleys lightened and balanced, vauxhall injectors, bike carbs acting as TB and tuned by the Dave Walker as he is running Emarald ECU his car is running 165bhp. plus the engine was also rebuilt.

ive got a simular set up on a basic 2litre silvertop @150bhp, what injectors are you running? is it the original ones in the ali injector plate? if so what colour are they, think the 2litre ones are light brown. thought there is also slight differances in port dimentions between the silver top which the sandwich plate is off and the black top hopefully someone can confirm. 200bhp sounds bit pushing it for those throttle bodies though and possible injectors (depending on what you are using)

The 130ps inlet can be identified because it will have 'HO' stamped in the back of the riser for cylinder 1. If it says 'SO' it's a 115ps spec. If neither, it's a 1.8 105ps or from a 1.6.

They also had different injectors (red if I remember right, deffo *not* beige like on the 2.0), throttle body (same diameter as 2.0, but different linkage), bigger bores on the injector plate (2.0 had this as part of the manifold) and different cams to the 1.8 115ps and 105ps.

People say the 2.0 and the 1.8 130ps cams are the same, but I've not seen anything to prove this.

Also the ECU is different on the 130 spec, of course.

Not sure if that answers your question though, but I'm not really sure what you're asking!

Chris

With all due respect, if you say "tuned to about 190 to 200 bhp" it means you don't know, you are hoping that that is what you will have.

There is only one way to know and that is a rolling road.

190 to 200 from a Zetec is a big ask without doing a lot of work and spending big money. I think Burton performance recomend rods. forged pistons, throttle bodies, race cams and serious head work for 185bhp so 150 to 165 is more like it.

On this forum its conservative expectations or show me your Dyno sheet.

My Silver Top 2lt makes 161BHP with Jenvy TBs. Blacktop might make 170 with just TBs. Anything after that is big dosh.

Do I understand correctly that you bought a 200bhp blacktop zetec without intake system?
A engine is tuned to spec by the components used, so the intake system is a key player in this. So without this, the engine might aswell only put out 130hp
Or you bought a very expensive standard engine.

200hp out of a zetec required a serious amount of £ to get there and certainly for a 1.8. It would need at least forged pistons and conrods, some wild cams and headwork with matching throttle bodies and injection setup And I can't think anyone would do that to a 1.8 while a 2.0 is also available without any weight or size penalties

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies. I don't think I explained my self very well.

But you are helping me come to some decisions, I appreciate that.

Further to my previous, the car has light brown injectors and an omex management system.

I think from your replies something like a Jenvey set up is what is needed. But your thoughts and ideas are welcome.

As far as the 2.0 black top goes, the 200bhp is wishfull thinking on my part...I am going down the tuning route with it.

With what has been said and the potential costs I think may go as follows:

1. Cams (poss. fast/ultimate road)
2. Verniers
3. Lightened flywheel
4. Ported head
5. ARP bottom end bolts
6. Jenvey or similar set up

As before all thoughts/ideas/replies are very welcome. :

jenvey throttle bodys a nice option if you can afford or the new AT ones, alternative is still bike throttle bodies but as earlier said would think your current ones to small for that power level other options may be GSXR1000, ZX12, blackbird ones
