Have one of these swirl pots but which connection goes where!!? Think the ones I have are correct but how does the fuel get back to the tank??

What you have there looks right. You don't have to worry about fuel getting back to the tank because you will never have more fuel coming back
along the return line than you had going to the engine along the high pressure line.

Only vaguely familliar with 4 pipe pots
12mm bottom to high pressure pump feeding injectors
on the top there ideally would be 3 pipes
One returns back to the tank - will be the highest and narrowest bore pipe
one is feeding the pot from a low pressure pump (keeping it topped up with fuel from the tank)
Lastly there should be one that is the fuel return from the injector rail

Looking at Rich's picture there appears to be a blanked off connection right on the top. This could possibly be used as a return to the main fuel
tank (if a union was screwed in) or it could just be used to bleed the system initially and then sealed off. Ideally it would self bleed but not sure
how much of an issue it would be if the lift pump did not have a return. My Rover V8 runs twin SU's and I use a self regulating fuel pump with no
return pipe (not EFI in my case) to keep the carbs primed and it works fine.
Am I correct in assuming you are running en EFI system Rich? I think your reference to "high pressure" means that you are but worth
checking.

Yes, for Zetec SE so EFI.
I thought the same about the blanked off connection on top, unscrew and use this for the return.
Haven't had a good look yet but looks an option.
Just wondered if anyone else has used this type?

Another thing which is bothering me...do you have the two top connections the wrong way around in your diagram?
Normally (in my experience) low pressure connections have larger bores so for example the inlet to an EFI pump would be larger bore (say 14mm)
compared to the outlet (say 8mm). The bottom of your swirl pot definitely goes to the EFI pump inlet which is a low pressure connection. What I'm
thinking is that maybe the larger of the two top connections is supposed to be the inlet from the lift pump which might make more sense as the blanked
off (possible tank return) connection is adjacent to it. That would leave the smaller bore top connection to be the return pipe from the fuel rail?
Maybe? Sorry I can't be more definitive.

The manufacturer of the swirl pot is FSE. I've not found their homepage but the above suggests the inlet is 10mm, outlet is 12mm and return is
6mm. That might suggest that you need two fuel tank return inlets - one from the swirl pot and one from the fuel rail. Not sure but you could email
the manufacturer if in doubt.

This gives the data sheet for the swirl pot. Small top connection is return to tank. Large top connection is feed from lift pump. Bottom connection is
feed to injection pump.

Yup. The smaller one is the return (you can tell this cos there's a big arrow on top of the thing )
So is it right to use the top blanked off bit as I have shown and I am assuming this should work fine!?
