Daft Fuel Pump Questions
FrankP - 31/10/09 at 04:01 PM

Hi,
As I said in an earlier post I am not getting any fuel despite the pump whirring. I have just checked the inlet fuel line and am net getting any fuel there either...
So it looks like the pump is not working properly..Sooo

1: the tank outlet and pump are pretty much level could this be a problem? i fi this is a case is there a pump I can use?

2: I bought a 2nd hand pump from an astra gte and no instructions or markings - could I have installed it the wrong way round?

Any help gratefully recieved

thanks

Frank

yo'ure not getting any fuel at the pump inlet? the tank sounds blocked.

Is the outlet of the tank at the bottom of the tank or the top?

If its at the bottom like most then by removing the inlet to the pump it should surely just leak out...

The high pressure fuel pumps can not usually lift fuel on the inlet, so you need an outlet at the bottom of the tank.

Hi,

The tank outlet is at the bottom.
The fuel pump is level with this.

Thanks

Frank

if there's no fuel getting to the inlet of the pump, there's your problem. gravity should do the job for you.
sounds like the pump would happily work if there was fuel to it

sounds like a blokage in the outlet pipe swarf or silicone from where they or you have sealed the sender unit maybe. This is quite a problem. I would suggest that you place a filter between the tank and the pump as well

Hi there. I had exactly the same problem recently with our Lucas HP pump. I had inadvertently wired it up incorrectly. Swapped pos for neg and HEY PRESTO!!
