OK so it's winter aqnd the tuning has had to take a back seat to the weather.
By the time summer comes I'll have forgotten all I've learned so far. I have a bunch of questions/ideas I need to discuss with anyone in the
know about megasquirt. I see many people on here have the same question types so here's what I was thinking.
We set up a time and date for an msn conference. Prepost a list of questions and see how many of us are asking about the same thing/tuning area. We
then discuss said questions at said time for a predetermined timescale ( say 15 to 20 mins) after which we will have an idea on who can best help us
with our line of thought. they can then move on to a seperate or later conversation on their own. So what do we think??
Msefi is slow to respond to any/many questions and it'll keep our hands in during the winter period.
So i'll start the list with needing a basic lesson on how the accel enrichment setup on tuner studio works and what info i can glean from
watching the ball move while live tuning the car.
Or am i just boring you all already
its a good idea, but what i find with any MSN conversation, is that you're typing a messgae out, and by the time you come to send it, everyone
else is on something completely different, and the more people involved the more difficult it is.
good idea, but i don't know how well it would work in practise. be interesting to see though
skype conference???

Thats what i was thinking, or perhaps put a post asking that you would like to talk about it to someone in detail and that if someone could with the knowledge could provide a telephone number through U2U...
Or we just need someone to write a Good guide to megasquirt!
The manuals are good, but due to being constantly added to the info seems scattered all over the place. I know the MSextra manuals are currently being
re-written.
Its so difficult to write a clear and concise manual because of all the different permutations. That said you could write a manual for the common
kitcar installs quite easily as most 36-1 trigger wheel based fuel and spark.
I have learnt a lot about the system running and modifying it over the past year. Was difficult to start with due to the jumbled manuals, but now I
know where to look to find the info its not so bad.
If its a specific question then you can usually get the help you need just by posting a question here or on the msextra forums.
Forgive the double post....
If people would find it useful I could compile all the relevant info together into one location for a typical kitcar install using MSextra 1 and 2.
Would obviously be a bit of work, but if it would be useful then its worth doing
It would be basic, only covering the normal installs and missing out all the uncommon stuff (like idle valves etc etc)
Include something like:
Required hardware
Required sensors and mounting etc
Common Programmable outputs (tacho, fan control)
Basic settings in megatune/tuner studio
Ignition and fuel set up
Basic tuning tips
Typical troubleshooting stuff
I am by no means an expert, but should be able to pull something together which should make it clearer to prospective MS users.
It'd be particularly useful to have notes on common problems and tuning tips. This installation itself seems fairly self evident, but any
anecdotal musings would be welcome!

When I built my Megasquirt (not yet installed - due to no money and no manifolds)
I took a yellow highlighter pen, and struk out the pages I didnt need. This cuts down the information overload you get with MS.
It lets you know to ignore certain pages.
Its a Locost solution as well!
MS is brilliant, and if you look at the igntition section its 2" thick when printed and I only needed about half a dozen pages!
This worked for me.
God know what I am going to do when / if I actually get it fitted!
how about a good guide stickied at the top of the fuel injection section
thats if anyone who has the knowledge has the time to make one

I agree the manual is like lots of IT documents. All the information is in it, but its very difficult to find. You find you have read it from start
to finish and hope you can remember where to find things, and do lots of searching.
I think the data need reformatting into a database type structure, whereby you describe your intended install (i.e. which Throttle bodies, which
trigger, which MS unit, fan control, .....) and then it builds a manual for your install.
This is the same as the "yellow pen" solution, but uses a bit less paper.
The other thing is that the present manuals don't capture much new knowledge. For example the LM1815N circuit for MS1 in the manual is a bit
rubbish, and there are standard fixes for it.
I think MS is excellent, but you do get what you pay for.
I don't know much, but I am happy to share what I have learned.
