Adapting GSXR fuel rail
wonderfulweasel - 20/5/10 at 06:49 PM

Hi,

I need to adapt my fuel rail (for GSXR throttle bodies) to take a return to the tank. I don't want to use the GSXR fuel pump and regulator as it's a long way from the tank to fuel rail.

I was going to drill and tap the ends of the rail for some 8mm connectors, but not sure if this would work as there are plugs in each end of the rail.

How have others gone about doing this?

Thanks

do you need to respace the TBI's or not?

Have you a photo of your rail (they come in different types), some are easier to deal with than others.

On my K4 1000 im sure it had a return as part of the system. It certainly didnt look modified anyway.

Dont all TB fuel injection systems need a return?

are you talking about the 750/1000 sectional ones not the 600 solid ali fuel rail?
if so i just fitted a second sectional feed pipe like this to use as a return

You could just fit a tee piece in the feed to the fuel rail as close as possible. It is not ideal as it doesn't keep a steady flow through the rail when idling etc but would work ok.I have heard of people fitting a regulator at the tank end in the boot .

Thanks for the replies so far.

I should have said, it's for GSXR600 throttle bodies. I won't be respacing them.

I'll take a photo, but not sure when I'll be able to post it as I seem to have misplaced the camera lead!

Lots of the Sukuzi stuff doesn't have a pressure regulator at the fuel rail end, or a return to the tank.

The pump is clever in that it incorporates a pump, filter and regulator. The filter also acts as a swirlpot to some degree. There is also no return line from these. So, the fuel from the pump goes straight into the fuel rail.

I have just replicated this and it works fine.

I run a GSX R1000K8 fuel pump on my Westfield Megabusa. It is fitted in the tank with only one line to the front of the car. the fuel pressure is exactly the same as it would be in the bike. the pressure regulator will only regulate when the entire line is at the required pressure so it works and runs perfectly. Furthermore, it makes the engine bay so much neater because there is only one fuel line and no ugly regulators or return hose.
