My RV8 can rev to >9k RPM!

According to the datalog anyway. I'm getting intermittent spikes in the RPM count which causes it to hesitate as I accelerate. I've used screened cable from the sensor to the EDIS8 module, and screened cable between the EDIS and the MS. Both cables are only earthed at one end. I don't have the 25uF capacitors fitted to the coil packs. Any ideas?

The rev counter on the Sports 2000 car did similar things.

Changing the polarity at the rev counter end cured it.

Two things to check..

1. spark plug lead too close to VR cable - this casued me problems at first with my EDDIs8, one cable was too close to the chassis tube that the cable ran along.

2. VR sensor not close enought to trigger wheel. this can casue an sudden increaes in the rpm log when the singnal is lost and eddis thinks its the missing tooth.

And along the same lines as Pauls second comment, that the mount for the VR sensor is sturdy enough that it isnt vibrating away from the toothed wheel

Sometimes the tooth-logger in TunerStudio can be useful.

It certainly can show up if you have the polarity inverted on the VR sensor (it worked for me anyway).
