I fitted a fuel return to my tank which is an elbow fitting into a large rubber bung. It leaks when I fill the car up. I tried to bodge it with some
tank repair putty, but the petrol appears to be weeping through that. Any ideas how to
1) Remove the mess I've made
2) Fix it without welding and ideally with the tank still in the car (back axle off to get it out)

Dave
bodging and petrol tank is three words that should not exist in the same sentence....
Best weld a fitting, after removing fuel and filling with water.
One possibility is to weld a fitting to a flange and attach in the same way as a fuel indicator.

Use a brass water tank fitting then adapt your return pipe to fit the fitting.
You might have to drill the hole out to size though.
If the fuel gauge hole is close enough you could pass a flanged tank nut on a piece of wire to the inside face of the hole you want to attach a
fitting to.
Seal it with a bonded seal on the outside.
