Lately I have been re-routing some fuel pipe and was horrified to see that a few of the 'proper' fuel pipe clamps have started to leak where they are clamped round the pipe, actually cutting into it. I think some of the problem is a combination of cold weather, re-using old fuel pipe and possibly even overtightening the clamps in the first place.

My tintop uses a lot of 8mm FUEL PIPE HOSE LINE CLIP CLAMPS set of 4 Clips on eBay (end time 28-Dec-10 13:04:09 GMT) which have been secure for years and I was wondering what the collective thoughts were about using them.

Might be good to put a photo of the clips u are using... I like the sprung clips but have not re-used as I guess you need a special tool to retract them? Might get away with pliers on the small ones like fuel hoses?

Anyway you've done what we all should do check them from time to time!!

In principle the sprung ones are better as they are correctly tensioned for the job and stay springy so as the pipes shrinks with age they remain tight.. Ones like jubliee clips ect will reduce there clamping as the pipes shrink..

Strange, but I've been looking at these too, I think they are the way forward as they auto tighten, think its just doing the research and getting the right size.

Pretty much thinking on the same lines then. It just goes to show how things can change over a few years. I was really careful to not overtighten them when I originally fitted them but I think the cold weather made the pipes more rigid than usual, forcing me to give them that 'little extra' to make sure. I only realised after I started the engine and noticed a pinhole squirting a tiny stream of petrol over the starter motor Methinks it's time for new fuel pipes!

btw. The same company does an 11mm version which I think will be ideal for standard fuel pipe which is ~13mm so the clamping force should be about right. I have found a simple pair of pliers does the trick for these. If you do a search for 'Mikalor fuel clamps' there are a few suppliers on eBay

They are indeed - there are several sizes so take a bit of your hose with you.

Mmm, just got carried away and spent £15 on new fittings! Ebay seller Autofittings seem pretty good, they have to come from Hong Kong so will take a while to arrive but will look better than the secondhand ones I was thinking of getting.
