i have a 1990 mk1 golf cabrio for the mrs and its been in the garage for 5 years and not started so i got new cap plugs leads and airfilter ,i want to drain the fuel from the car as its been in it 5 years ,i removed the banjo from the filter, after trying to take a feed from the return ,i turned the ignition on and can here a buzz for 2 seconds but no fuel is coming out ?

The old K-Jet has a relay that runs the pump while the engine is firing (coil pulses). It primes the system for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on prior to cranking.

Yes fuel should come from the output of the filter but I would bypass the relay to test fuel delivery as it can take some seconds when the fuel lines have fully leaked down. There is a non return on the output of the fuel pump as far as I remember to keep fuel in the lines under normal usage - loads of info on the web.

when i wanted to empty the tank on my VortX i just ran a wire from the +ve terminal of the battery directly to the fuel pump.

You could disconnect the pipe on the output of the pump down infront of the rear drivers side wheel.

This pipe rusted through on my Mk1 golf Gti (also k-jet) when I left it in a garage for 3 years. I guess a bit of water collected and it rusted up.

I miss that car
