Fuel pumps with gravity or top of tank fed
Feeding a v8 with carbs from a top fed tank, i've got a new pump which is for the v8 but cant get fuel flow to start engine or keep it
running.
It ticks, has an inline filter before it and is lower than the tank.
I've checked for blockages, correct in and out pipes, fuel hose (new) and all connections.
Nothing!
So i read that i might need a different pump on the basis of above.
What you folks reckon?
Electric Facet one I had said - short suck, long blow on the install instructions I seem to remember. Worked fine until I went EFI.
run the pump into a clean bowl do you get fuel ?
have you connected the pump the correct way round ( the valves only work one way ) the end with the filer in should be at the feed from the
tank
checked polarity on the wires can you show us a picture of the pump ?

You need one of these Red Tops
Two of these chappies for sale. I had them paralled up to feed a swirl pot but following a redesign of the fuel tank now have the swirl pot included
in the tank - sort of.
Will pump enough fuel for 240bhp each and IIRC I paid around £80 each for them by the time the unions were included.
Only one left now at £40 including royal mail post
You need it mounted vertically idealy with the unscrewable filter end down, have you pulled this off to clean?
They will work at the front or back, better at the back nearer the tank but in a car this small it will not care.
If it clicks violently and quickly then no fuel inside, if slowly then its pushing against something so you may have a blockage, those facets last !
Dirty rusty scabby after 20 years and still working well in the rear arches of range rovers

cheers, i'ts a full new end to end system. lines, pump and filter.
i tried it vertically and no joy either
i put the old one back on and it works fine
it ticks very quietly so i guess i need to put a bit of pipe on the output into a bowl and see if that works.
if not then the pump is dead.
the old one uses the same electrical connections so must be the pump.
pump works off the rangey but not on it
new hoses so clear of blockages.
works fine with old pump on it in the same location so stumped.
?? Not earthing through the rangey body? Try a seperaste earth wire to the battery
