Injector sizing help please!
adrianreeve - 13/11/11 at 08:50 PM

Hi there

My second hand 40mm Jenveys came with a set of 220cc/min pico injectors. As they came with the setup, I assumed they would be ideal, but having used a few fuel injector calculators, it seems that they may be a bit small?

The engine is a 2l Silvertop Zetec, stock apart from the Jenveys, a kit spares exhaust manifold, and an MS2 ecu.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, and a source of cheap alternatives if I need them!

Cheers

Adrian

I would guess you would be looking for around the 160BHP mark for a silvertop on ITBs. So you would need 270cc at 3Bar to get that sort of power.

By the calculator I use there good for 135HP, The 2.0 Ltr Zetec will either be a 115 or a 130HP with Thottle bodies you should be in the 150-160 HP range so need some injectors which flow 262 cc/min.

Regarding a source maybe you could get some used ones off ebay which flow that much. Maybe a set of 2.0 Ltr Duratec injectors would do the job they acheive 150 out of the box.

If you do the x5 /4 way seem close but in practice you may be looking at 160 bhp ish I would think they would be ok, worse case may need to increase fuel pressure, if you planning more upgrades might be worth considering larger, I'm running 174 bhp zetec on gsxr injectors which are around 225cc

As I have mentioned previously, the 20XE made 155bhp straight from the factory with 214cc injectors.

Can you change the injectors for standard size? If so, i would get some 803's or even go for a set of Asnu injectors from Mr Injector UK.

I wouldn't use 803's, these are old style metal bodies injectors used years ago, popular in cosworth YB engines. Plus they are low impedance. They have a poor spray pattern compared to the stock white Bosch standard 2.0L zetec injector.

I use 450cc volvo T5 turbo injectors in my NA and low power zetec turbo engines. These are alittle too big in theory for a stock 2.0L but work fine as they "turn down" well due to very good spray pattern.

I used these injectors in the 177BHP 2.0L NA zetec on my website.

Would 330cc injectors be ok? I can get a set of these at a very good price, so worthy of consideration!

Cheers

What injectors are they? if they are metal bodied then don't bother, the newer ones (Bosch Gen3) as fitted to Focus Zetec are the type to go for (plastic body), these are available all sorts of sizes. The stock 2.0L (white) injectors are 200cc/min. OK for 150BHP.

They are plastic siemens ones from a mini cooper s. They get taken taken off at the car's PDI when they are converted to John Cooper Works spec. I managed to get a set for £50 delivered, zero miles use.

Anybody have experience of using these injectors?

Cheers

No, but the honda S2000 uses 335cc/min injectors, so 330cc should be ok for 240+ bhp.
