Megasquirt on a V8?
coozer - 30/7/12 at 08:56 PM

Now then, just about to try and start my V8 for the first rime on it's original ecu and clockwork dizzy.. thanks for all the help with wiring diagrams chaps.

Plan is to convert the dizzy to coil pack and edis using the MS2 I took off the MNR. I have all the parts ready for that.

Question is, is it worth going the whole hog with the MS, or, just using it for sparks on the edis and the Rover ecu for injection?

Will the V8 run any better on MS? Is it easy?

I ran mine for a short while, it is better as you lose the MAF or in my case it was flappy box so have less restriction going in, the rover ECU is pretty crude as well.

You will need to shunt the injectors as low impedance even using PWM I fried the transistors

I moved my MS to my BEC

It will run well on it. In doing mine I got several things wrong and never let out the magic smoke. The main issue is you will need to add a trigger wheel and crank sensor, but that is a well solved problem. Have a look at http://www.megasquirt-v8.co.uk/index.php

We have fitted MS to rover V8's of all sorts of spec's from stock to twin turbo.

We are doing a TVR now!

MS will trasform the car, coilpacks are the way to go but as long as the dizzy, coil and leads are in good order it will be fine. I would recomend you do not use the dizzy to trigger MS, buy a 36-1 wheel kit from trigger wheels. Only use the dizzy to distribute the spark. (leave the pickup disconnected)

If you have the older rover V8 EFI (with low imp injectors) you will need a 4.7ohm resistor per injector. Don't bother with the lucas resistor pack as these fail.

If you need any free advise please ask! www.baileyperformance.co.uk
