Do I really need a low pressure fuel filter.
emwmarine - 27/12/12 at 05:28 PM

i have installed my high pressure pump and was going to fit a low pressure fuel filter between the fuel tank and the fuel pump. The problem is that there isn't much space and the sytec low pressure filter I have is quite big. To locate it where it is well out of the way of the driveshaft and de-dion arm at the end of the suspension travel means locating it so low that part of it sticks out below the lowest chassis rail.

It would be a lot neater not to have the pre-pump filter. Do I really need the filter, or will I get fuel pump problems without one?

Its best to have one otherwise the pump will suck in any crap from the tank.

i race cars on oval circuit use no filter

My fuel pump and carbs have bin fine for 3+ years but for the price of one i sud really

My kit car never had one either before i went fuel injection and that was factory built never had any issues ..

So wouldn't panic to much

but for the cost of one if you can fit one in i would

Fit one. I lost an injection HP pump because I thought it would be OK.

I'd aggree on this.
If it were carbs I'd worry less, but having just spent 2 months cahnging the injector pump on the Terrano I'd do anything to avoid it again

Best to have an in-tank screen filter as you find on production cars but if you haven't go that you should a have some sort of filter before the pump.

It nearly got scrapped mid change for 1 12mm nut that I could not undo!
Apart from the skin grafts on my knuckles, I'm getting over it now and it's worked for over a week now
