I was just wondering if anyone here has had their wasted spark ignition timing setup on a rolling road?
I've got my old Mercedes up and running on the Canems ignition ecu, on the base map, it's running ok, but does need tweaking.
Luckily I have a copy of somebody's megajolt map for the same car, which is a lot closer to where it needs to be.
I've asked at Dynotech in Ripley about having it on their rollers to just fine tune it, once I've loaded in the map I've got,
they've quoted £250+vat which does seem a bit high to me for some relatively minor work.
How does this price sound to you guys?
I've not used rolling roads before for tuning, but that just seems at bit on the high side.

Bailey Performance was £250 for a full day when I went, that was fuelling and ignition and a few tweaks to my wiring etc. The car was much better when he had finished with it, it didn't feel like he added much peak power but the low and mid range were transformed!
That's what I mean, £250 for a full day is a fair price, but £300 inc vat for a couple of hours tweaking the ignition timing, seems a bit
strong.
My car is still running the original bosch K-jet injection, I'm not touching that at the minute, that's being replaced later this year, when
I convert to full EFI...
I used mikeanics in Congleton Cheshire for my set up. He set the carbs up and mapped the megajolt unit. Very pleased with the results. He charged £250 a couple of years ago which I thought was ok.
I've been quoted upward of £500 for a full mapping of a MS, but what you require seems an awful lot less work.
That's the thing, I don't want the fuel side touching, I just want the ignition timing checking and tweaking a bit, I know that the map I've got hold of is close to being right, so it's no major work to do, 1-2 hours at the most.
The joy of programable ignition is being able to plug it into a laptop and tweak it on the fly. It shouldnt really warrant the cost of a rolling road unless fuelling is being setup at the same time.
That's what I'm going to have to do I think.
It just would have been nice to have it on the rollers, but not at that price.

TBH I'd snap up a £250 mapping session (And probably will when I get the twincharged setup bug free!), it would cost me that in fuel to road map
it.

I don't mind paying £250 or more, once I've done the full EFI conversion, it just seems a lot when I only want a few timing tweaks doing
rather than spending days doing it on the road.
I understand that the fueling needs to be monitored, but it's the old mechanical Bosch K-Jet system, so there isn't that much that can be
done with that at the minute.
Is it a W123 or W124 ?

I would be using the map you have. maybe tweek a little as time goes by. And wait until the EFI is installed.
At £250 a day I am tempted. Seriously.
That is once my car is actually finished. But whether my dunnell ecu is tunable I am unsure....
