Air Temp Sensor locatoon advice.
r1_pete - 6/6/15 at 12:03 PM

I've changed my mind about ITBs for my efi setup, and am going with a plenum and single butterfly.

Where is the best place for the air temp sensor, filter or engine side of the butterfly? I ask because I have several holes in the plenum I need to plug, and could use one nicely for the sensor.

Cheers.

Pete.

I'd say as close to the engine as possible. You want to know the temp of the air as it enters the engine, what temp it was when it was entering the filter doesn't matter.

I don't think location matters as the temperature wont change much going through the butterfly. Plug those holes. Only forced induction need to worry about the location (within reason).

In theory the plenum is best, but in practice it tends to get heat soaked after the engines been turned off (easily see 50c or more...)and then it can take a few minutes to read correctly once the engines started again so the ecu leans it off when it really shouldn't be. In the intake/filter/nose cone gives better consistent readings for the ecu to work with.
