Megasquirt for a 4age
blockhead_rich - 25/2/06 at 07:58 AM

Hi
I'm currently exploring the use of Megasquirt for my 4AGE engine and wondered if there are any experts out there who may have done the same and therefore who would be able to assist me specifically with this application rather than general info? I've too many questions to list them all here!

Does Bill Shurvinton have a webb site?

Thanks in advance, Rich.

Hi Rich,
First of all your M8 cap head is in the post.
Ok if you want to have a chat re MegaSquirt then give me a ring (U2U for phone No.) I only live 10 - 15 min up the road to you so your wlcome to pop round and compare notes if MS is the way you go.
I'm fitting MSII V3 to a 2.0L Phase II Zetec.
As CaLviNx says MS can be fitted to any engine.
My only comments so far is that it is a very steep learning curve but an enjoyable one.
I was worried about taking the MS route initially but I was eventually convinced by both financial constraints and the desire to prove to myself that I could do it.
I finally got what I believe are usable maps into my unit on Thurs this week....Time will tell....Just waiting for a few bits in the post from Think Auto and then it will be time to turn the key and see what happens.....

Thanks Mark
You make some valid and informative points. Just seems a bit daunting from the outset.

Would it be possible to give me a bit more info regarding the following?

X1 Idle control valve (sited to bleed to the inlet air from outside a butterfly) - I'm using GSXr T/B's with the Toyota fuel rail. Would the T/B's have come with this as std? or where would you recommend this is fitted?
And

X1 Idle control valve (sited to bleed to the inlet air from outside a butterfly) - do you think I could use the one that was in the GSXr airbox? or would it be better to use the Toyota one?

Thanks, Rich

Hi BKLoco

Postman just put the bolts through my letterbox! I'll try them in a mo! Thanks.

I will definately pop down to see you shortly re Megasquirt. Thanks for the offer!

Rich,
A lot of people say the FIdle valve is not even necessary on our type of car. I am not fitting one initially for various reasons and will assess the need later. I think the old acronymn KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) applies more than ever when building LoCost but sometimes we get caught up in technology and go over the top.
