how do they work, ie, do they have a permanent live and a trigger live and earthed vie the engine.

or am i wrong and barking up the wrong tree

is the trigger from the megasquirt + or -?

I always thought they were simply a solenoid with a +ve and -ve.
Unless it a Landy TD5 one which uses some sort of witchcraft

Not earthed via the engine, live feed and injection system pulses earth.

If you run them 100% then they burn out, the fluid going through cools them.

My Emerald ECU has them wired with a common +ve ignition feed and triggers them with a -ve pulse the length of which determines the amount of fuel delivered. Some require a resistor in series to work without burning out the ECU due to too high a current draw. I have Bosch/Vx ones fitted...£25 a set s/h.
