Hi
At my recent SVA, my car only just passed the emmission test. I think the limit for my engine (a 88 Pinto) was 3.5 and my car came it at 3.45. This
has me worried, as the next time it needs and MOT, I have a feeling it will fail, so I thought about trying to adjust it and realised I have'nt
got a clue on how to.
It is running the basic Ford Efi system.
Any ideas ?
Dead easy job mate. The clock work spring in the airflow meter has gone weak.
This needs to be done near an emissions tester.
Undo cirlip around hose to airflow meter, remove electrical connector & detach meter. Invert meter and CAREFULLY remove wedge shaped black cover
(stuck on with silicone).
Refit meter to hose but up side down, so cog wheel is visible.
Refit electrical connector.
Turn adjuster fully clockwise till it stops.
Start engine, with emissions tester connected.
Carefully pull locking straps out of cog and turn cog (clock-wise I think) until CO reading comes down to and is settled at about 3.5%.
Now turn mixture screw out to give a reading of 0.50% (approx).
Switch of engine.
Clean groove out on cover, apply new bead of silcone.
Remove meter & clean mounting for cover.
Fit cover to meter.
Refit meter (correct orentation) including electrical connector.
JOB DONE (about 15minutes)
