Which Bike TBs ?
DaveFJ - 27/6/06 at 03:22 PM

Having now tried cutting down the Sierra plenum in accordance with the Luego suggestions I can report - it's shite! looks awful and the pipes are so misaligned.. it's basically UG-LEEE!

SO.... been looking at a set of Bike TBs to fit. there are loads cheap on ebay so I need suggestions.

What do people recommend for a Pinto 2.1l ? am aiming for 150-160 Hp...

I know very little about bikes so any help is appreciated.

cheers

I did the simple calculation; that my 1300 x-flow will rev to 6500, so T/b's off any 600 bike that generally revs to 12,000 + will do. So got a set off eBay from an almost new GSXR 600 for £40.
Simply do the same calc for your engine of choice and get suitable T/Bs.
Certainly well cheaper than Jenveys!

what calc ?

currently coming up on ebay are a nice looking set of R1 carbs, a set of gsxr600's and a set of gsxr750's ...... oh.. and a set off a FJR1300....

Just noticed that the various gsxr carbs all have abother number as well .. K1,K2,K3,K4 etc ... help!!!!

As I say - I know nothing about these TBs so have no idea what to go for....

Cheers

Just placed my order for R1 carbs, manifold, Ramair filter and fuel pump from Bogg Brothers.
They like to use either these or ZX9

r1's are popular
carbs are easier to do than throttle bodies.
r1's come in both (i have throtts)

Not actually bike TBs but I now have two sets of these....

These ones are the TBs from the Silvertop 4AGE 20V. The other set are on my Blacktop 4AGE 20V currently installed in the Striker. The blacktop TBs are tapered 48mm (they start at 48mm and end up 45mm at the butterfly). The silvertop are a little smaller.

Can highly recommnend the Bogg Bros R1 conversion for the Pinto.

I've got a set of CBR 600 TBs for a Zetec engine I'm building. Don't have it running yet but look nice. Only 1 butterfly etc.

On the gsxr ones the K1 etc is the model year, K1 is 2001, K2 2002 etc. The K1/K2 GSXR bodies make fabricating a manifold a bit easier, as they are 4 separate assemblies that can be re-spaced relative to each other, as opposed to being a pair of castings each containing two throttles (like a twin weber) that requires you to have a wonky manifold.

Oi, I saw the 750s on ebay first - they're mine

Re the calculation - I think he's saying that he has twice the cubic capacity but half the RPM so the air flow rate is about the same as for a 600cc bike. Sounds pretty sensible to me.
