hi all,
ok my new project is under way ,
just about to order m/s will be using a blacktop 2l zetec,
should i run throttle bodies or good old twin 45?
whats your view and why

I used to have a Corolla GTi with twin 40 Dellorto carbs and I still believe that was the best sounding engine I've owned.
It did need regular tuning to keep it perfectly setup so now I would always choose TBs instead. Oh and it did seem to drink like the proverbial fish
as well.

I'm doing the same thing, and after much deliberating, decided to go with 45DCOEs....
Carbs sound better, are simpler to fix/ set up in many cases. TB's give better mpg, often better power due to near perfect fueling and can be
cheaper to source.
Oh, if I could make a megasquirt set-up I'd go that route. It would also give many an excuses for going for a drive. "just popping out to
set the engine up darling, back tomorrow......"

I've had both on my zetec. The TBs sound very similar to twin 40s, apart from the lovely roar the TBs seem to give at the top end
mpg on TBs is 15% better at ~36mpg on a 1.8 silvertop.
Tweaking TBs is way easier. A tap or 2 on the keyboard is all that's required...
I'd never go back to carbs...
...especially given it doesn't cost all that much more to do a bike TB setup.

I've got a part built Mac#1 ZR over in my parents garage (the road to getting my garage ready has been a long one!). Now I'm a complete
novice to all this kit car malarky (make that cars in general) and one thing I see a lot written about here and there are throttle bodies. Could
someone explain what exactly throttle bodies are and how they differ from carbs?
Carbs.................?............u wanna pose or go fast?
Cant make a carb but can design n build an injection system.

Right, so, if you have carbs everything is there ready to go, if you go TB's you need the bodies themselves and an ECU unit to control the injectors correct?
TBs the way to go. My car will start first time every time first flick of the key...no matter if it's -10 or 30 deg outside. If your running a zetec you'll need an ECU for the sparks so getting one to run the fuel is no more hassle. Something like the Emerald will also control the fuel pump, cooling fan, rev counter, shift light and data logger/diagnostics for all the engine sensors. Couldn't go back to carbs now.
This all sounds quite complicated. Have you ever had that feeling you may have bitten off more than you can chew!

It need not work out much more expensive , the carbs still need a manifold and as said an ECU for ignition etc.
Also with carbs you have little choice other than to have them set up on a rolling road which can easily cost £200 plus and involve changing jets
etc.
With Injection it can be roughly tuned by setting basic settings to get the engine running and then fine tuned using dataloging and auto tune features
built into the megasquirt software whilst enjoying driving the car.
I have fitted megasquirt to my car and havent had to spend any money at a rolling road to get good results.

Is the Megasquirt the one you have to assemble yourself from a kit?

any one know the expected BHP out of a zetec 2.0 on MS and TBs?
Which is the one that replaces the Ford Edis module and which throttle bodies are easiest to work with, any in particular or are they all pretty much the same for 1800 Zetec or similar?
I'd suggest bke versions being easiest, partly because of there availability and price compared to others, ie Jenvey.
