Running Megajolt and Megasquirt
TangoMan - 26/11/06 at 10:31 AM

Does anyone know if both can be run together on a Zetec, and if so how do you get the VR signals for both. (Running a CVH flywheel so no flywheel option!)

I know I can run MSnS but feel it would be easier to set up the fueling first knowing that the Megajolt works and then convert to sparks from the Megasquirt.

Thanks

easiest option would be 2 trigger wheels and 2 vr sensors.

Thanks Ray.

I suspected that may be the case but thought I had heard of using a feed from the MJ to fire the MS.

Why would you want to use megajolt when megasquirt can do the same?

Because.....

We've thought of the same but I can't see it working..

If you were running a well tuned ignition map for the standard injection... and then change to Throttle bodies then the ignition map would also have to be changed to get the most out of the TB's.

We had a good igniton map that made the Twin 40's run really well on our car... Changed back to the Standard Webber Carb and it needed a drastically different map.

I run both on my crossflow. All you need to do is take the tacho output from the Megajolt to the input trigger on the Megasquirt.Mine is a v2.2 board and V3 software. I did it like that as i already had the megajolt fitted and working well and didnt want to go to the bother of modifying the basic megasquirt.
It ran fine from the start but have adjusted the ignition map for best performance when i got the fuelling about correct.

Would the map from the Megajolt not Export straight into the Ignition table of the Megasquirt?

Thus giving you what your after.

I've currently also got a Megajolt with Dellortos and in the process of going over to Megasquirt. I decided to go with the MS2 and use the EDIS module from the MJ setup. Then when MS2-extra is sorted I can probably ditch the EDIS and mod the MS2 accordingly.

Thanks Paul. I knew I had read it somewhere.

It would do but if I encounter problems I won't be certain of where to look. With the MJ running I will have one less thing o worry about.

Having not seen the MS software, maybe I am being too cautious. Is using a Stim really all that is required to verify no errors.

If there both 10x10 or 12x12 (can't remembe which) mapping tables then they should export over... or even if you have to copy them over visually.

The pickup wheel and sencor will have stayed in the same place so the map should be the same, if its giving out a spark then you'd have to presume that the advance/retard is also working.

The map will need adjusting later by the looks of it anyway:

In the end its upto you, but wireing and neatness wise it'd probably be easier to go with the MsnS from the off with the map copied over from the megajolt.

how much do you think you would gain, and is megasquirt better than megajolt.

TangoMan - 27/11/06 at 07:47 PM

It's better in that it controls injection as well as ignition. It also has 12x12 tables as opposed to 10x10 of the MJ.
