Fuel pump inertia switch

Do i need to fit a fuel pump inertia switch.
If so where does it go?
Using ford fuel injection as from donor 2.0 pinto.
Also where have people fitted the fuse box on the main wiring loom?

I would. Think....... In the event of an accident and rupturing a fuel line. Would you want somone to spray you with petrol with 50psi behind it?

Fit the inertia switch. I am not sure where, but I think I would use it to cut the Fuel relay. I know some pumps have a fairly heavy current rating like 8-10 amps. If the switch cant take that sort of current, use it to cut the Fuel Relay.

Not sure where in the vehicle to fit it. Somewhere on the main chassis, so the shock of an accident is transferred to the inertia unit. Whether it needs to be on a Slope or not I dont know. If you know what car it came off, the a trip to the scrap yard will show its orientation as the manufacturer intended it to be used.

Make sure you get it right, its a "Mission Critical" part, and could save your life, or some nasty scars.

I'm going to fit one (possibly the sierra one - its in the boot, in the middle of the spare wheel if you haven't found it already) and I've got bike carbs and a bike fuel pump

i've fitted mine to the floor at the side of my seat, if i give it a kick whilst gettign out it trips off but not whilst driving, mines between the relay and pump.

Fit it somewhere you can get to it to reset it when it trips.... The sierras had it in the well for the spare wheel in the boot. Whenever the spare wheel got dropped into the well, the damn thing would trip, the car would start, get about 50 yards, and cough to a halt......

Rover 200/400 models (old shape) have an excellent one behind where the radio mounts in the centre console. Dead easy to wire in and can be used to disable the circuit and stop the car starting should anyone like it more than you

If any one wants the wiring diagram for it I'll dig the manual out and post it here.

Im fitting the one from the mk 5 escort I have used as a doner the switch was mounted in the drivers side foot well kicked it once when it was in the escort and took a little bit of time to work out why the car would not start. Has any one had a problem with it tripping over bumps when in a seven rep coz of the hard suspension?
