MSnSE 3 problems - problem 1

The first challenge I have is understanding this:

First, look at the RPM - it should change when you move the RPM pots on the stimulator. Note that if you have installed the VR input circuit jumpers in step #52, the stim is not currently designed to put out the sort of signal (AC) the VR circuit expects. However, by adjusting the pots at R52 and R56, you might be able to get a useable signal into MegaSquirt. The RPM may not be stable at each end of 1000-6500 range, but it should be workable over that range, at least. Then you'll know that the rpm input circuit is functioning at it should.

Well, my RPM doesn't work and I don't know if that is a problem as I am running a VR circuit setup? Any views on what the above means in neaderthal English please?

I have had this... I cant remember what it was, but I think I had to use a test setting to make it work on the bench.

Under the SPARK menu, then Stim For Wheel, I had to turn this on.
Its for testing on the bench, so Turn it off when fitting it to the car.

This got my RPM going, and can change rpm with the Stim pot.
Then I found out that if you leave the main setting to Distributer, you dont need the Stim Wheel setting. (only on the bench).
Set the codebase setting to Distributer, and not Generic wheel. Whilst you are testing on the bench.

With the wheel setting I think there is no input

EDIT:
You probably already have... but RTFM
