Edis Sheilded wireing
ibakes - 2/5/07 at 10:56 AM

Morning all

Just putting together the wiring loom for me Megasquirt running the Edis system and most things I have read tell me to shield the crank sensor and cables to the coil pack as here

But the original cable for the Edis wiring (cos I got the loom included) are not shielded. should I re-do the wires with a shield or leave it as ford created it?

personally I will sheild it.

Ford had the advantage of a nice large engine bay so the could route it away from any causes of interferance. Man hours to test watch and monitor ect.

where as kit car looms we dont have easy access to osiloscopes ect that can see if it is picking up interferance.

if it is sheilded it can very likley crossed of the possible problems list if you run into prolems further down the line.

Ok thanks for that, next problem is, Anyone know where i can get 2 core shielded cable off the roll??

Maplin.

Best bet, if not using shielded wires is to twist the wires together, almost as effective due to noise being picked up the same polarity, so canceling (only vr sensor, PIP and Saw will suffer.

Just about to do that, I have the PIP and Saw signals with only about an inch unshielded wither end, getting some more cable off a friend hopefully

am i right in thinking that the Tachometer gets it signal from the PIP signal??

This place sells proper automotive screened twin cable (tough material, etc.). Not expensive either.

Also has all sorts of EDIS bits & pieces, trigger wheels, etc.

They seem to have some good stuff.
But who are they and where??
I can't find any info about the company. No physical address, phone, VAT-reg, etc

Does anyone know who they are?

Trigger Wheels?

I'm not sure who or where they are - but I think the bloke who runs it is (or has been) a member of this forum.

I've bought a trigger wheel and cable from him - no complaints.

Pin 11 on the edis module provides a tach output (CTO), but it's a 12v square wave which some tachometers won't trigger from (most are designed to trigger from the much higher voltage spikes at the coil). If you have a search on t'internet there's quite a bit of info on getting tachs to work on wasted spark systems though, that's if yours won't work from the CTO.
