Calibration/setting of TPS on megajolt
bob - 14/5/07 at 09:31 AM

When setting the TPS on my MJ the 1st reading i get on the laptop reads.

"step 1;Ensure throttle is fully closed"

Does this mean at idle closed or fully fully closed ?

educated guess would be at idle closed. no point in having it fully closed as the engine wouldnt be running with the throttle fully closed.

its like calibrating a joystick pedal... in most cases the accelerator pedal is the joystick. so it'll probably ask you to leave the foot off the pedal then press it fully?

Cheers

After some thought and a chat with others thats the route i took.

Having a bit of trouble loading or getting the 3.2.1 firmware to work but i have another little job to do so i might just give my brain a rest and maybe stick with the 3.0 for now.

I think 3.2.1 has significant benefits that make it much better than 3.0 - it's less susceptible to interference for a start. It also offers dual maps and a setting for engine start-up timing. Excluding those features, it's worked better for me than earlier versions.

What sort of serial connection are you using? Brent Picasso has been finding all sorts of issues with the USB-Serial convertors.

There is also an issue with the size of capacitors around the MAX232 chip that means it may work with the config software, but not with the faster firmware upload.

Let me know if you want further details...

Hello david

Its just the regular 9 pin serial lead, the problem is more me getting my head around loading the 3.2.1 and especially the formware.

I've just made another disc with both on and printed out the pages of details for the job, you have to remember it was me that recieved an invite for a TOGA party and turned up dressed as a GOAT
So i will have to read the paperwork at least 101 times before it sinks in , still i've got this far and its running on the 40's map.

bob - 14/5/07 at 05:53 PM

OK

It would seem that i cant load the firmware from a disc, and i cant use my laptop on the net

And i'm not shipping the pc from the house to the garage, also MJ cant come to house (dont ask)

So whos local that has 3.2.1 on there laptop, calling surrey dave

That's strange - both the loading program and the data file are tiny by PC standards, so you should have no problems getting it onto your laptop and running it.

There are some basic comms tests that can be done with the Windoze Hyperterminal program - have you tried them? (LINKY)

What i'm getting at the moment when i try and use the firmware reads as this.

The service profile is damaged. Re-instal the sewrvice profile.

David Jenkins - 14/5/07 at 08:40 PM

I think you need to ask this question on the MJ forum!

Sorry, I can't think of any more ideas to help...

bob - 14/5/07 at 08:42 PM

Thanks for your time David, my head is going to explode if i carry on.

Lucky for me i have a 12hr shift of overtime tomorow so i can go and have a rest

David Jenkins - 15/5/07 at 12:06 PM

Just one dumb question - are you running the firmware loading program (hc08sprg.exe) from windoze or from the DOS command line?

It doesn't work if you just click on the icon...

Aha its the firmware that i'm having trouble with, so it looks like i need something to open it.
