manual fuel pump problems

can anyone help have fitted a manual fuel pump to my 2lt pinto engine but pump will not work , have tried with the 5mm spacer and without but no petrol.The pump works fine of the car if yoy push the plunger by hand you get petrol

Are you sure the operating rod is not worn away to nowt? I used to have this problem now and again. A new pump was the only cure

I assume you really mean mechanical . Is it fitted to the engine it came with as there are different length pushrods.

Looks just like a roughly 2" length of valve stem and cutting a suitable length of valve stem worked fine for me when I converted an EFI pinto to twin 40's.

ive tried fitting a new pump without the push bar by accident - it doesnt work. I fitted the bar and its been fine since.
