Fuel tank plumbing
bassett - 30/12/07 at 03:54 PM

Hi im fitting a fuel tank on an MNR to a R1 (2002-5PW). The tank has 4 holes and im not sure what they are all for and would just like to check. The bottom one is for the send fuel line, top 2" for the fuel filler, the small top outlet for the return and the last small outlet on the top is this a vent pipe, if so what do i vent it with?
Also we have a pump but no filter. Any recommendations for one and should we put an inline filter before the pump or after?
Thanks
Alan

thats right, add a filter before pump and you get a special vlave to put on the vent to stop fuel coming out if you roll.

My setup is for a car engine on bike carbs so doesn't have a return so I blocked the two small 8mm on the top by connecting them together.

For venting I invested in a small one way valve jobbie from Think that I fitted into the fuel sender flange.

My ZX9R pump is down next to the outlet on the tank with a filter before it. I've also used a filter just before the carbs.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for the speedy replies guys. Dan what does one of these special valves look like and where could we get it from?

ive got a filter just after the pump and one just before the carbs.

Vent the top pipe to your helmet and the smell makes you think your going faster. (joke)

Alan,

I've used a vent valve similar to ebay item 8049042497 (just an example, and NTDWM)! There are far more expensive versions available from the motorsport suppliers, but I have confirmed this type vent effectively and seal when required.

Dom.
