Just another quick question.

Where have people put their megasquirt?
Is the engine bay too hot?

I would prefer to mount it in the engine bay near the pedals, as I have space there.

And I don't really want to make a bracket to mount it else where.

As long as you have quality wires anywhere you want really.

I found I needed a shielded cable for the RPM pickup off the coil pack.

If you look at an XJS jag, they have a MAP sensor ecu with the ECU in the boot, I suspect the delay is probally 1 mSec per meter on the vacumn tube, so not noticable.

In the MS manual it says it should be in the occupant area as the MS unit is not designed to cope with heat/moisture. I suspect heat may not really be a problem (but stand to be corrected) however I would make very sure the unit cannot get wet.

also bare in mind that if you plan on doing datalogging / changing setting whilist moving you will need to get a serial cable back to the interior.

I mounted mine under the scuttle (passanger side) so the serial cable can be removed completely when not in use.

Seems I will have to make up some sort of bracket, and mount it under the scuttle.

Off the top of my head the only thing in the MS that isn't rated to the kind of temps you'd see in an engine bay is the MS1 processor itself (the MS2 processor however is rated to automotive spec). But as has been mentioned, your number 1 problem is water, the standard case isn't even vaguely splashproof, and neither is the DB37 connector supplied in most kits.
