Secondary Butterflies, fuel rail
violentblue - 29/3/08 at 10:15 PM

Hi all,
working on my intake manifold and figured I'd better respace my ITB's so they'd fit better.

There a set of R1 ITBs with the secondary butterflies. not entirely sire what these are for but there seems to be a stepper motor or something that controlls them.

I don't believe that megasquirt has provision to controll this, so shouls I just remove them or what?

I'd like to know the solution others have come up with for this.

also, extending the fuel rail, should I just cut it and use a section of pressure rated fuel line to bridge the gap?

Hi,

I'm using GSXR throttle bodies, they have the same arrangement. We've removed the secondary butterflies - I think these are like an automatic choke - it's something you can live without. The latest version of megasquirt does have a controller for this iirc.

We bought a length of fuel rail and will drill it at appropriate spaces and then we'll make some brackets to hold it all in.

Aren't they something to do with improving torque at low revs? That's what my Duratec V6 had originally fitted - I removed them to make mapping easier.

Thanks, that helps.

I think I'll remove the controller but keep the butterflies, but lock them at full open so I don't need to worry about sealing the holes back up.

I wouldn't do that......get rid of them and fill the holes - It's not a hard job, and the air flow will not be compromised........

thought about converting the secondaries to locked ajustable system, so I can govern the max throttle for, just in case I let someone else drive.

spinning up some caps for the holes out of aluminium isn't difficult, but whats the fun in that?
