Sounds like what they use in production cars, make sure though it will plate the interior and not just the outside. I found I had to put and electrode
(metal bar) into the any hollow parts for the electrolysis bath as nothing happened inside without it. The same thing might apply to that process.
Another thing to mention is you can buy an epoxy like coating that is poured into a tank and the swirled around to coat the inside and fill any pin
hole leaks, used a lot on motorbike restorations, I think it would last longer than the plating.

I have a stainless tank in the Falcon, can't fault it but cost a bomb, mirror finish and can't even be seen 
How about a plastic tank? I orginally bought one for boats, ok so it might have been a tad big but amazing quality

If you weld zinc plated steel the heat will destroy the zinc and the tank will rust.
For a locost solution use ordinary steel and paint it.
Doesnt the zinc also turn nasty and make you very ill? I seem to remember galvanized steel is dodgy stuff to fabricate.
I cant help thinking you are more likely to get pin holes etc from using such a material.
Just use plain steel and paint the outside.
The inside wont rust as theres no oxygen in there as the fuel vapour displaces it.My cars been on the road for 4 years with a mild steel tank and from
what i can see looking in the filler theres no rust inside.

My PTM tank is 5 years old and still going strong! Yay I'll find a nice puddle on the drive tonight then.
