Injector LEDs

Hi All

I'm trying to get my engine running properly but having some problems.

I'm trying to check that the injectors are firing as they should and I've seen, somewhere, LEDs used in the back of the injector plug to light up whenever the LED is powered. I've got a pack of LEDs and a bundle of resistors - can anyone suggest the best way of doing this.


Could I do the same for the coils too?

Wyn,

I have used LEDS on the Low voltage side of my V8 Coils to ensure that i was getting them in the right order ( 4 waisted spark units ) .

I would not know about the injectors hope some one will answer shortly as i would like to move from batch fire to sequential at some point and it would be useful to know.

That's what I'm tryiing to do! Did you just wire the LED across the live feed and switched return of the coil?

You can buy 12v leds that do not require a resistor, these could be wired directly across the injector plug , dont know if the back emf from the injector coil would damage them though.Or you could try your leds with a resistor of about 470 ohms in series.
I think maplins would have them.

In the same vein but even more useful you can buy blade fuses with an led that illuminates when the fuse blows.

Um............I can usually tell when a fuse has blown
Good idea if you have a lot of fuses though .

I'll try the LED and resistor option tonight.

Mr Whippy - I'm not aiming for the chav look as four LEDs will add to much weight to the car!

LEDS need to be connected the right way round !!!!.

I learnt that lesson !!!

Get a logic probe , cost about £6.00 had one for years and find it very useful and cheaper than a noid light.

I left work early, drove 30 miles to Maplins, picked up a Logic probe, got to the till and realised I'd left my cards at home - no cash!

I rigged up two LED's and tested all the injectors then all the coils - everything worked in the pairs 1&4 and 2&3. Then I tried the coil and injector from the same cylinder and they were flashing together! So, me thinks this is wrong, I swapped the leads over and now they are firing as they should be.

Sadly, battery is flat and jump battery isn't holding charge.

Will try in the morning.
