My post on another thread has got me thinking......

Does the temprature sensor connected to Megasquirt perform any function once the engine reaches operating temp?

reason I ask is that when the engine is warmed up megatune reports a steady 102 degrees regardless of the temp on the water temp gauge which can vary from 90 - 120 degrees (although I don't know how accurate that is!)

has a look at my calibration figures for the sender and I can see that when you reach 85 degrees C you are only seeing a couple of ohms difference for a degree change as opposed to 25-30 ohms change around the 35 dgree mark... (if you see what I mean)...

therefore the sender is much less sensitive at normal operating temps

so - back to my question...

Does it matter? once the sender tells MS that the engine has warmed up does it play any other part? or am I safe to ignore it?


to avoid the inevitable question: Yes I have properly calibrated using megatherm and flashed the update to the MS unit and added the files to megatune....

The sensor is non linear hence the difference in sensitivity.
Once the engine is considered warm there is very little info required, on to of the range ecu i think timing is adjusted, fuel remains the same.
Some OE ECUs actally change the driving resistor for the sensor at a cetain temp to make the output more linear.
