Trigger Errors
ShakeyC - 10/8/08 at 10:43 AM

Hi everyone been browsing here today for a little while thought i say hello and ask a question.

Been looking for a solution for annoying trigger errors but not found any so far not a common engine to be used i guess. The engine is a 1.6 Ford Sigma all sensors working fine apart from the trigger all i get is trigger errors in mega squirt when cranking it doesnt pick up a stable rpm signal therefore will not start.

Annoying thing is cannnot see the trigger wheel to calculate and work out the trigger settings but as its a ford i used the older zetec-e 36-1 settings which may be wrong?? Can anyone tell me the primary trigger settings should be? or even better share a base map so i can atleast get it to turn over.

Can't help specifically for the sigma but just to say the crank sensor is polarity sensitive so maybe try swapping the wires round.

Hi thanks for some input;

I have tried swapping wires around, bell'd out all wires too no sign of damage or cross-talk either. I am confident the problem is in the software settings in megasquirt ie under primary trigger or somewhere else im not familar with.

Where is the sencor located?

If its on the front pulley then its likely to be the 36-1 toothed wheel.. if its on the Flywheel (like fiesta's are) then it may be a 60 odd toothed wheel.

Also the sencor wire shielding is only earthed at 1 end isin't it.

Its on the left hand side same as cam belt under plastic covers near the bottom according to Haynes book of lies, tried taking covers off and cannot see it very little room.

Flywheel appears to have no trigger markings apart from the outer teeth for the starter motor.

Have you used screened wire?? If so make sure it's only connected at the engine end. I made this mistake and it did run but like a bag of nails. disconneted at the squirt end and away it went no problems.

Note to self must read other posts more closelyLOL
