Can anyone ID this 30yr old Yamaha ?

It's been given to my neighbour for clearing out a garage and he has no idea what it is

TIA

The first few digits of the engine/frame number should be Yamahas code number for it - google that and you'll find the model, etc.

I think I've got the workshop manual (PDF) for it, but can't remember for sure. I'm back home tonight and can check if you like.

Yep, 60's Yamaha 80 YG-1, that looks like a non standard fairing off a Honda. Never seen one before with that on.

Check THIS out.

That's pretty cool, especially for zero £! Disc valved even (!), so it should fuel properly.

Is your neighbour going to keep it? I sometimes commute on my TY, and that's surprisingly good even on A roads, as long as you avoid the really fast roads. Or altenatively just wheelie everywhere, as that tends to convince people to back off. Only problem is the Yamaha 6v Electrics of Death, which will be in full force on the YG.

Edit: see here

And it's a ring-ting. Butchered Cub fairing to keep your legs dry

Thanks all, he justs wants a few quid out of it, the last one on ebay went for £77 and was in better nick (although it was mising barrel, head and piston).

I'm informed it's now lost drive too
