Why do people bother selling on eBay any more?

Yeah, like that's going to happen

I agree surely if a seller is crap then we should be able to comment. Looks like QXL or Ebid may become more popular.

Seems like Ebay is as determined as Paypal to allow fraudulent buyers being able to claim non-delivery and reclaim of funds without fear of reprisals or is that just me??

Think i am going to start offering nothing but "signed for" postage in future regardless of price

big_wasa - 28/5/08 at 11:18 AM

Yep its putting me off to.

But what are you going to do when they have the job sewn up ?

eBay ARE Paypal, they bought them a few years ago. That's why they're now also forcing sellers to accept paypal on every single item they offer

That's the trouble, there's nowhere else I can easily sell crap from the back of my garage at silly prices. I think a lot of people (me included) are going to carry on in the hope they stay lucky, but give it in as soon as they get turned over

I've only ever sold one thing on ebay - it got sent recorded, signed for and insured (at the buyers cost)

I also made sure that I got the paypal + ebay fee's fully covered in the costs

It's a shame ebid has'nt really become more popular (I paid an upfront fee of about £1 years ago for a gold account so no fees)

Don't use paypal either - thank god

Fatgadget - 28/5/08 at 11:39 AM

Just like Exchange & Mart and Loot ruled the roost back in the day,Ebay too will eventually go west.

I don't know what all the fuss is about paypal and ebay. No-one is forced to use it. But if you do then you are selling to a wide audience and part of the deal is they'll charge you for the priviledge. Price your item accordingly, sent it insured with POD and you won't have too many issues.

As a buyer I think I've just been ripped off (seller no longer a registered user and hasn't sent the goods) but the loss is small and paid via paypal so I'll get it back eventually. That's a better position than I'd be in had I bought via a classified ad or some other private sale.

surely a seller has the right to leave negative feedback (where warranted) if the buyer is slow to pay, or generally just messed about

I had issues when I tried to list an item lately but managed for now to get round it:

ive come to ferment a real hatred towards ebay now, and in honesty, with the advent and growing popularity of forums dedicated to all manner of interests surely these are the places to sell things?

I would say of my internet purchases, easily 80% have come from adverts from forums where 90% of the time the people are genuine, the goods are as descrived, and the people are relatively friendly!

Above all else, with a forum, you are advertising directly to the demographic that will probably want to buy what you've got!

Exactly

Ebay has changed a lot nearly all the sellers are now businesses.

I don't sell anything on ebay anymore after dealing with a complete nutter and getting no protection from ebay.

--- I still buy occaisionally but for me it now more a way of finding vendors who sell certain more specialist products. For example I bought a touch up spray gun this week that has a much smaller nozzle than most touch up spray guns --- more like a big air brush.

yes they should.

the problem is that if they naturally give negative feedback if they are given same by the buyer.

this has been discussed before - seller should be forced to give feedback first or is not allowed to give feedback once buyer has given his.

I had this last year. Paid promptly, CDs jumped, complainedto seller; would have been even more out of pocket if I returned them as seller would not pay for postage so gave negtive.

Got revenge negatvie back yet I did the transacting properly.
