What do you do when your oil filter almost touches the chassis rail but you want to fit an oil rad, and therefore need a sandwich plate? My thoughts are perhaps there are adapters that change the oil filter connection angle through 90 degrees so the filter points horizontal rather than downwards. The alternative thought, is perhaps there are special low profile oil filters which might offer the inch or so extra clearance I need.

We use a remote filter head and relocate the oil filter so that the sandwich plate is effectively just a port out and port in with a blank where the filter usually fits.

remote oil filter, the sandwich plate is then fitted with a "lid"?? did that on a car years ago, mocal are your friends.

There are lots of different height oil filters. But I would definitely avoid the worrisome bodge of using one with an 18mm thread (renault 5 IIRC) when a 3/4UNF one is meant to be used. That is just asking for trouble.

I fitted a remote filter as well as an oil cooler in my Zetec Indy
The take off and end cap takes up less room than the miniscule filter I was running prior

(now have a monster sized filter in the nosecone)

Not sure if I have any pics of it all in situ...will check and post back if I find any

I don't need to find much clearance - where can I find a lowish profile oil filter? They don't appear to come with obvious dimensions Its just there seems a fair bit of faff with a remote filter assembly.

Check you oil temperature first if the temperature isn't too far above the desired temperature often just fitting a remote filter in position that gets cool airflow is enough to bring the oil temp down to within 10 degrees of water temperature.
