very little, but with out a V5 It'll be on a "Q" plate anyway.

IIRC: I believe it may be possible to bring up the ground off number by applying a little acid to the area.
One of the clever lads on here with metallugical knowlege may be of help.

That is true, but I can't quite remember the technique. Basically, a light acid will eat the softer, non punched down metal away quicker than the stamped bits, so they end up slightly raised. A lamp shone from the side will then help the numbers show up.
Or just go down the local scrappy and 'borrow' a new number.
Actually I thought the car had been in the road? Don't you have the V5 and thus engine number?

At work we colour the finished bronzes with potash (if that's the colour we want!), and that shows up welds quite clearly. It goes with a wire brushing though.

Quick question surrounding this - when I swap my Pinto to a Zetec - should I inform the DVLA?

Or keep quiet?

Is there a risk that with the change of engine they will want to inspect the car?

I swapped the pinto for a zetec and just informed the DVLA of a new engine number and cc change, no probs there as engines are changed al the time.

Sweet thanks - one less thing to worry about.

Hi guys, so what was the out come as to having no engine number stamped on the block ??

Jason

donut - 14/10/07 at 06:50 PM

1, make one up and hope the SVA man don't care and DVLA accept it

2, Buy a block or get a knackered block of fleabay

3, use the number of another engine that's not going to be used on the road [not recommended for obvious reasons]

Deckman001 - 14/10/07 at 09:47 PM

I was hoping for using the 'acid type' response
I'll have to re read 'I saw you', is says how to do in the book
