ok, next question - MS

i have calibrated my TPS and have a lower value of 30 and an upper value of 197. now for my TPS flood clear value i should put my 'gas' padel (bloody yanks) almost to the floor, so would a value of 190 be ok to put in my 'more cranking stuff' menu where it says tps flood clear or do i need it to be a little less like 180?

mate im still having trouble getting it to fire, i have done exactly what is says in the manual, all my screens are reading so i know that the vr sensor is working as the cranking dial is registering the cranking speed, i think that it may be the cranking pulse times that need adjusting, i have tried the ones you have given me and it still didn't work. any ideas?

It sounds like there's something fundamental stopping it from catching you've got fuel going in, you've got sparks, they're just not happening at the right time. You can try disconnecting the MS from the EDIS SAW cable - this will put EDIS into limp home mode (and mean that MS is not handling the spark for you). Also turn the engine over for a while with the injector fuse out to clear the cyls of any residual fuel..

Still on the MS, check that the temp / pressure sensor readings are reasonable - they could be making MS do something weird if they're way out.

if it still doesn't catch, I'd look again at the engine itself - that the cam timing's correct, that you haven't got the wrong plug firing for each cylinder, and that the injector banks are wired the right way - so you're either firing sparks 180 degrees out, or squirting fuel after the spark (on the power stroke).

right its almost firing, the engine has started skipping as if its going to pick up and start ticking over, i have used your msq vinnie and am manipulating that. will keep you posted.

considering that the car was running before i put it away for the winter and was ticking over nicely at 800 rpm happy as larry, i dont think that the cam timing is out. i have just disconnected the MS and turned it over to get rid of any fuel, i have been thinking that cuz ive been trying to start it all day i have more than likely flooded the engine? possibility perhaps?

i want to load up my msq for you to have a look at can you tell me how?

oh and yes vinney i got you msq by e-mail thanks.

At the bottom of yopur reply there is a box with attachment and browse on it. Browse to your saved masq and attach it and that's it done.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Ok I think your required fuel is quite high at 18. something.
My calculations for a pinto of 1998 cc with r1 injectors at 210cc/min (was the only google reference i could find) comes out at 15.8.
Given that my xe came out at 13.9 and was IMHO mega mega rich and is now running at 11.0 reqd fuel I'd say you are also probably quite rich. ( I know the pulse width is a variable as well)
Also every time you turn the key you'll be injecting a prime pulse of fuel into the manifold this can mount up to way to much and it won't fire (mines did this as well).
take out and clean the plugs and you could try a kettle of boiling water onto the outside of the manifold to vaporize the fuel lying in it.
I'd be temted to got to
"basic setting>fuel ve table1>tools> reset reqd fuel and change it to say 13 and rescale the table and then try it again.
You'll probably see for your self/smell if it's way to rich . Mines always smelt like that and black smoke from unburnt fuel as well.
Good luck.

I'm aware it's a zetec map, but here's one off a Zetec running R1 injectors.

It's off a fella called FatBaldBloke from the westy forum.

It uses quite a low Req'd fuel of 7.6!
