megasquirt flexibility
Hi MS experts!
I've just spotted something interesting on ebay and basically I was wondering if a megasquirt setup that was designed to run on a 60-2 trigger
wheel and distributor could be easily converted to run with EDIS?

most common setup is 36-1 (ford setup) but you can (at least with the extra code) setup anything - even a 4 point trigger... so I think the answer to
your question is yes!

Really I was wondering if a megasquirt that was originally created for a general motors trigger i.e. 60-2 would have the right inputs/outputs for an
EDIS module or would I have to make big modifications

i though MS was ONLY for 36-1 wheels. but getting a 36-1 wheel for your red top shouldn't be a problem

You CAN run Ms on a 60/2 wheel .
However I'm sure in the distant past of reading up that edis HAS to be 36/1.
Hopefully someone else will confirm or question this statement.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Ive realised ive not given very much info!
Basically I have a redtop and I've set it up with a trigger wheel (36-1) and the EDIS unit.
Theres a MS on ebay which is set up to run on an Redtop but with the 60-2 and dizzy (I've removed the dizzy from my engine) so I'm
wondering if I buy it can I change it to run with my setup

sorry guys im not making myself clear, I know the setup I want and I do know quite a bit of the manual about setup and tuning.
It really boils down to the difference in a megasquirt that runs with EDIS and a megasquirt that runs something different. Are they created
differently? Will a megasquirt which doesnt currently run with EDIS have all the necessary parts?

Just read your reply, yes it should be trivial to change the ignition side to work with EDIS
Again peruse the hardware manual for the EDIS mods - depends on which version of MS hardware you have as to what the mods are
Then its just a case of using the software to tell it to use the EDIS as ignition in a couple of places, instead of the VR/triggerwheel system, and
it should just work (and will retain the same ignition map that the guy you bought it from had...so you shouldn't loose anything)

Rob
Cheers Rob, nail on the head

You may need to add or remove a couple of resistors and possibly diodes depending on how it is set up for the wheel input. The Edis needs to drive
against the correct input load and get the correct signal back .
It is not to difficult to do as long as you are carefull with the soldering .
