Gear box movement - Flak monkey

further to earlier thread

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=109475&page=2

Just how much does the box move?

Vertically and horizontally?

The image may not give a good enough angle
along the box to show the exact clearance,
but I dont fancy making mistake if easily avoidable at this stage.

Cheers

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

i don't think that the box moves that much if at all, probably mainly through vibration more than anything, mine is bolted to the chassis via a rubber mount as well as being attached to the engine and to the prop, i doubt it hardly move at all

I wouldnt have thought it was moving about
too much myself but
I am prepared to be stood corrected.
Hence me asking about how much clearance I should allow.

Thanks omega

My engine mounts are solid, but the std sierra gearbox mount is pretty weak and allows quite a lot of movement at that end.

I can move mine a good 10mm side to side pretty easily. Up and down is less of an issue.

Personally, I made it so I could get my hand between the gearbox and anything else around it. That way you are pretty safe (certainly mine seems to have been)
