Upgrading RV8 from carbs to EDIS
I thought I'd start a new thread about this rather than hijacking Paul's.
I bought my Fury built a few years back and I was never comfortable with the fact that it was using a 36DGAS carb from the V6 Capri that donated the
rear axle. I'm a geek, I'm very comfortable with computers and electricity (that statement will come back to haunt me), so I always
envisaged converting to EFI at some point. That point arrived yesterday when my car died on me again and I thought I may as well SORN it now.
The heart of the system will be a Megasquirt 1 ECU from extraefi.co.uk. The manifold is an Offenhauser 360 from eBay, and the 4 barrel throttle body
is from Bill Shurvinton. I was originally planning to do fuel only at first and then move over to EDIS at a later date, but as it was the ignition
amp that died on me yesterday, I put in an order for the EDIS-8 stuff from trigger-wheels.com today.
Anyway, on with the photos :-
The orignal carb and manifold (a regular SU manifold with the pent roof cut off)
Old and new together
New one dropped in place. I'll have to reroute the pipes to the remote filter as they currently block the fuel feeds.
Regards,
Dave

You will need to make something up to replace the distributor as it has a bevel gear and runs the oil pump.
If pushed you can chop off the top of the alternator and machine to fix a bearing and cap.
Alternative is late 3.9 front cover as this has a different oil pump, later 4.0/4.6 engines have completely different timning covers, camshafts etc so
not an easy swap.

Or just leave the dizzy in place with no cables going to it! I agree it does like tidier removed but leaving in place means it will continue to work
as is with the oil pump.

There is no replacement for displacement...

I was planning to leave the dizzy in place until it was all working and I was looking for a new way to break it. Space is at a premium around the
front of the engine so it will go eventually.

Hi, youll prob find the engine runs cooler with the offy inlet
also if you have the height a 1" spacer between manifold and throttle body seems to help the engine breathing it did on mine ive got a holley on
there (tr7v8)

Looks a lot more compact than my installation Dave.
I changed to megajolt last year and just left the dizzy in place. I think I will leave it fore the time being during the megasquirt conversion BUT at
some point I will cut it down to just drive the oil pump.
What fuel pump are you planning on using as I still need to sort one out. + what fuel regulator?
Cheers

It needs to be small to keep it under the bonnet. The regulator came from Bill with the body. I don't know what it is, but I told him what
I'm doing so I assume it is reasonably suitable. I may replace it with an adjustable one though so I can see/control the pressure.
I don't know which pump I'll use yet. There seem to be some suitable ones on eBay at the moment for about £25, but that does seem too
cheap. I also need to sort out a HP filter.

Go through my blog, there's a bit in there where I modify the distributor so it still works the pump, but the rest is gone.
