Internal fuel pump externally?
Hi all,
I need to sort out an EFI fuel pump for my Saab powered kit, and decided not to keep the standard saab pump as it's an in-tank type with a
locking fitment into the tank i.e. rotate 180degrees to lock rather than just securing with nuts and botls.
I thought this locking arrangement would be too hard to sort out on the standard 7-type tank.
So looking for the cheapest fuel pumps on ebay or second hand, there's loads available but almost all are in tank types.
As they're mostly just a cylinder-shape with inlets/outlets on the ends, is there any harm in mounting them externally? Have you EFI people all
gone for universal external motorsport pumps or has anyone used something else to good effect?
Thanks!
Nick

Just get yourself a universal Bosch pump that is capable of 3bar and with the right fittings. 12mm input 10mm output. Vauhall Cavalier/Peugeot 405
have external pumps IIRC and should do the trick. £60-70 new or a fiver down the scrappie.
Bosch 0580464070 if I remember correctly.
If you are going to boost it then a "044" bosch motorsport or external Walbro pump. If you want an in tank Walbro I've got one that
I will be selling soon.
Cheers

Excellent thanks for the detailed responses, that 1st one from britishtrident looks good and cheap too for a new one.
Walbro external looks to be around £100 and Bosch 044s for £70ish.
Was uncertain of the in tank ones as they look like they are a certain height to reach the bottom of the tank in the original car, and may not fit
the kit car tank.
