Engine Sensors

Just had a look at the main wiring loom that arrived (2008 Aprilia RSV-R). Cor blimey, there's a lot of leads for various sensors!

I suspect many of these will be to do with emissions control, but as I just have to aim for 4.5% (MSVA) then I'm not all that concerned about keeping them!

Trying to get an idea of what the bare minimum I will need on the wiring loom. I'll be running an aftermarket ECU (probably a DTA), so have plenty of scope for compromise.

Thinking...

Throttle Position
Crank Position
Spark Gubbins x 2
Injector Gubbins x 2
Engine Oil Temp
Engine Oil Pressure
Engine Coolant Temp
Fuel Pressure
Rectifier
Lambda (one in both primaries, or one at the collector????)

I won't be using a conventional airbox, so is there any real advantage to having MAF or MAP sensor?

Questions... Questions... Questions... anyone have any recommendations?

maybe a stupid one but why not run the original loom/sensors? The only emissions stuff on the rsvr can be mapped out with a rolling road session.

IMO a DTA ecu would be wasted on it and you could spend the cash on other bits.

See I've saved you at least £1k already.

I didn't know the Aprilia ECU's were mappable... thought they were locked.

Cheers, but I'm not really up for spending £300 on a Power Commander when it can only control fueling and not ignition.

I'd rather spend another £100 and get a stand-alone which does fuel and spark.

Some of the older aprilia's can be 'chipped'. you'll be able to get one for a lot less than £300 too. Factor in the custom loom, the fact there's no base map for that engine(i think) along with all the mapping that'll have to be done.

All the above is useless if you've set your mind on a dta ecu though
